2016 Federal Poverty Level Income (100%-400%)

The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) issues poverty guidelines that are often referred to as the "federal poverty level" (FPL). The Federally-facilitated Marketplaces and State-based marketplaces on the Federal platform will use the 2016 guidelines when making calculations for advance payments of the premium tax credit and cost-sharing reductions starting November 1, 2016.

Note that Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program assessments/determinations are currently based on the 2016 FPL from the HHS 2016 Poverty Guidelines until January or February 2017 when HHS releases the new guidelines for 2017.

The 2017 guidelines have not been released as of the date of publication of this training, but will be available on the HHS Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) website (http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/index.cfm).
